Our Aweful Beautiful Life

While we watched many of our friends head south for Spring Break, we stuck around cold and gray Indiana. However we tried to add some light and bright new to our lives by giving each of the kids rooms a simple little makeover. We added color to each of the kids rooms, bought some new decor, and cleaned, cleaned cleaned. We were all quite pleased with the way things turned out. Emmalyn's room went to a gray, with pops of teal and coral. We had a blast at Hobby Lobby and practiced self-control by not buying EVERY little decor item that would match! Colton's room was up next and with the accumulation of banners he's earned in his first few years in the Cattle Barn, we kind of decided to use that as our theme. We painted the walls a light gray, then hung white lattice on a wall that he could hang all his ribbons and banners on through the years. I always wind up doing a dump post of some sort, because there are so many pictures and memories I want to capture, but just like our life....most of them are RANDOM. So, as life moves at this super quick pace, please bear with me, and just enjoy the memories.  We dealt with pneumonia with mom before Christmas this past year, and unfortunately, it hit Sister Sarah pretty hard in the month of February. Having a new baby and 3 kids under 4, I wanted to help. So  I stole George and Lucy for a day so that Momma could rest. We had a great day -- we tumbled, baked, dug legos out of the trash bag in Emmalyn's room (dumpster diving is a handed down trait in the Hall family! HAHA). We even snuck these little Cavaliers into the Frontier Elementary to have lunch with their big cousins. Valentines day isn't usually a holiday we celebrate too heavily. A fun little family dinner, maybe some cards and candy....nothing too exciting or over the top, but a small sign of our love for each other. This year I wanted to make it a true family night, and just have fun as a family. We get to caught up in the go, go, go of life and I wanted to slow things down. So, I looked on pinterest for some fun minute to win it games for my little competitors, made a quick stop at the Dollar Tree for supplies and prizes and home we went. Jason promised to cook a steak dinner, and I'd manage games. We started off with a scavenger hunt! Then sat down to dinner -- complete with grape juice in wine glasses for the kiddos. (Real wine for Mom. Beer for Dad. Deserved). Finally, it was time to compete! Required supplies: candy hearts, plastic spoons, solo cups. The end. First we stacked. During Colton's first year of 4-H, we thought it was important to get the calves out and get both Colton and the calves some show ring experience. Unfortunately, last year we were mid-house remodel, so we didn't get to an open show. This year, the kids held us to our word, and being Em's first year, we thought it was very important to follow through and get her that same showing experience ahead of the county fair.  Zach Lehe sold us a steer this year, and is having the kids show two of his Heifers, so when he suggested taking them to the AGR show in Lafayette, Jason was all on board. Me, the fair weather fan, was skeptical. It's a February show. February in Indiana isn't like, flowers and sunshine. My response: "Fine, we can go, but do NOT tell the kids, because if the weather goes to crap, we aren't going to go"...................well, Zach accidentally let it slip, and we were tied in.
