Karma?

Jason and I were adamant about not spending too much money on each other this year at Christmas. I found that we'd racked up enough points on our debit card to redeem for a gift card, one of which was a $100 Ruth's Chris gift card. Fancy. We'd never been there and probably wouldn't ever, without some kind of financial assistance like a gift card! :) Between that lure and the fact that I still have free stays via points at Hyatt...we opted to "give" each other a weekend away.

It was a GLORIOUS weekend. We dropped the kids at my parents about 9:30am Saturday morning and took off to Lafayette to get Jason's hair cut, hit the post office, and get a car wash before we left. Long lines at the post office, added stop to make an amazon return, loss of a wiper while going through Mike's Carwash, trip to Autozone to replace said wiper and itchy hair on his back from his haircut helped us not make it out of Lafayette until 11am. I was ANTSY! We finally get to Indy and opt to take Keystone up to Broad Ripple for lunch, then we had planned to hit the "Largest Indoor Garage Sale" at the State Fairgrounds. Well, appropriately enough, we missed our turn for Broad Ripple and ended up at the fairgrounds and what was more like the worlds largest flea market. Since we didn't need any California Raisins memoriabilia, and we were freshly stocked up on brownie mix & ranch dressing....we soon left the "garage sale". Disappointed to say the least. We were lucky enough to check in early, dump our stuff, and hit Chammps for a mid-afternoon beverage & snack. We killed time at the mall and even caught a nap before our big dinner date.

How do you top and Afternoon with these find friends?

Ruth's Chris was a really nice place to eat. We did enjoy getting dressed up and feeling fancy for an evening, but we both quickly agreed, that Top Notch is probably more our style! I think we were both in shock of the family in the room with us, at least 13 people, and Dad bought for everyone. Um, our bill, for the two of us...$140. With a $30 tip. We can't even IMAGINE what that guy dropped to buy his family dinner, but kudos to him for treating his girl right on her 30th birthday! HA We left Ruth's Chris and walked to the circle where we were pleased to find a carriage drawn by a Belgian Horse waiting just for us! I love doing that! A fun splurge for a getaway weekend!

Sunday was more shopping to find Jason some shoes, clothes, etc....while I had him captive. We took our time and stopped at a bar in Zionsville for a drink and some football before returning to his parents that evening to pick up the kids. We arrived there about 6.

Here's where it gets blurry. Colton was asleep on the couch, wore out from a fun weekend. Or so we thought. Emmalyn was whiny (but that's fairly common these days) but playful and Keaton was his happy self. Somewhere between saying goodbye & taking things to the car, I returned to find my little girl in tears, stading at Grandma's back step, covered (her & the floor, mind you) in puke. We cleaned up, loaded up and got her home quickly. I asked Jason to pitstop in Brookston for 7-Up. If the flu was invading, we needed to be prepared. As we backed out of the parking lot to leave, Colton puked all over the backseat. By 8:30 that night, Jason was puking too. The next three days are a blur of puke & blankets & naps & saltines & sprite....but we survived. Keaton didn't ever really "get" it, but I did...just not until Tuesday evening/Wednesday, after everyone else was healed. Keaton didn't want to be left out though...he developed a nice cough, and by Friday we had him at the doc being diagnosed with Bronchiolitis...a form of RSV. (He's doing much, much better now...by the way!)

So. We go away for a short 24 hours, and when we come home...all hell breaks loose. Karma? Perhaps.

Covid ... the end. (Hopefully. Maybe. I really don't know....)

 Almost two years ago, exactly, our world drastically changed. Everyone holed up at home, scared to enter the world and catch Covid 19/Corona Virus. (Except Jason, once he got to feeling better from most likely having Covid before it was a known thing, he just went to work everyday like nothing had changed). The world basically shut down  -- special hours, curbside pick up encouraged, no dining room service only drive through or carryout. If someone coughed or sneezed anywhere near you, you were instantly suspicious. Our parents lived on complete edge and worry, taking in every ounce of information the news was constantly throwing in their faces. It was a time of great uncertainty, lots of information being thrown at us from trusted news sources, social media, and hearsay from those in the medical profession.  We spent March to May just trying to figure out our new life. No baseball. No softball. Lots of time with our animals. Lots of crafts. School from home. Porch drop ...

Central Indiana Winter Spectacular

 We kicked off show season with this set of calves in mid-January at the Central Indiana Winter Spectacular, a first time show down in Cloverdale, Indiana. I'm not sure what was more fun - being with our kids and friends at a cattle show, or listening to our kids meddle over the thought of staying in a Motel 6.  (Backstory on this one -- when I worked at Purdue/in the Conference division, I held a few conference at The Hyatt in downtown Indianapolis. When I had events there, I'd earn points. We then would use those points for free night stays....I think I had maybe 15 or so over the years. So, the only hotel my kids know, is a Hyatt, because unbeknownst to them, it was FREE.....which is the ONLY reason we stayed in such a nice place with young kids. So, imagine their dismay when the Motel 6 in Cloverdale didn't have an Eagles Nest rotating up top, or an indoor pool and hot tub/workout area.
