Colton's 6th Birthday Gift

Jason and I teetered back and forth with what to get Colton for his 6th birthday. Afterall, we're thankful, but the kid just doesn't play with toys. He's not into a "show" or "action figure". He likes to "work, hunt and do what Dad does". Try buying that for a 6 year old.

As we thought about what we could do, we decided that perhaps the best gift we could give, was our time. Now that we have to share our hearts three ways, time one on one with each kid is a bit more difficult to accomplish. So, what about a gift where the birthday child gets a day, one on one with Mom & Dad. Add in hunting and Colton received a daytrip to Cabela's and some spending money. It worked out perfectly. Minus the stupid snow. Stupid. Stupid. SNOW.

Back up a few days -- before your birthday, you wanted to have a friends party. I can't come to grips with that yet, so we compromised with asking a buddy to come to the Purdue game we'd gotten tickets to. What a great night with Wyatt, Emmalyn, Uncle Trent, Dad and me.
Goofy girl!

Buddies!

Short stuff, compared to Robbie Hummel!

They might have gotten a little bit antsy.

Purdue games are a LOT of work!

Then we had Colton's birthday with family on Friday night (the day after his actual birthday) and he was spoiled with things like basketball hoops, nerf guns, mp3 players and quite possibly his two favorite gifts: Muck Boots and a new belt. Yup. True story. You went NUTS over chore boots & a new belt. You've hardly taken either off since that night.
Birthday Breakfast on your actual birthday!

You're dad was obviously thrilled Uncle T bought you extra darts...

This is my alltime favorite picture from your birthday. Colton, this is you and you, through and through -- a thriving party, and you take time to put on your new belt and boots!

Happy 6th Birthday, kiddo!

Saturday, we went back and forth trying to decide if we should venture north or not. It was supposed to rain, but then snow, and finally, we decided to just take the truck, take our time and enjoy our day with Colton, and only Colton as our main distraction.

WHAT a great day we had with you. If I told you once, I told you 100 times to put your wallet away in the middle of the store...you were ready to SPEND that spending money on camo bibs, and a coat. Or a toy. Or a play gun. Or the shooting games. Or our lunch. You were very generous.
Lunch at Red Robin

Excited that Cabela's was JUST up the road!

Ya. That's a stuffed Elephant.

Love these two. They were BOTH in heaven that day!

Yup. Having fun. Like Father, Like Son.

Happy Boys!

Sleepy boy!
When it was all said and done...you walked out of Cabela's with a $30 remote control ATV that your Dad said you could have bought at Walmart. I convinced him that didn't matter...it was your birthday, and half the fun of spending money was getting to buy what you wanted. And you were smart, you allocated some back to buy bibs...and we did, at Gander Mountain for 70% off (you learned those skills from me!). It was a wonderful day and we hope, a very blessed 6th birthday! Love you, buddy!

Get Well Soon, Grandpa Kent

Here's the best way to share Dad's video. Thank you all so much for submitting the clips. This really made him smile (and say some funny things the first time we watched soon after anesthesia). I think it will be treasured company this evening in the hospital. Thank you for your prayers, your thoughts, for answering the phone calls and lifting Dad up. We appreciate all your love and support.  58E2238E-D2E3-4B38-9FF6-AE1E502ABD14.mp4

Covid ... the end. (Hopefully. Maybe. I really don't know....)

Almost two years ago, exactly, our world drastically changed. Everyone holed up at home, scared to enter the world and catch Covid 19/Corona Virus. (Except Jason, once he got to feeling better from most likely having Covid before it was a known thing, he just went to work everyday like nothing had changed). The world basically shut down  -- special hours, curbside pick up encouraged, no dining room service only drive through or carryout. If someone coughed or sneezed anywhere near you, you were instantly suspicious. Our parents lived on complete edge and worry, taking in every ounce of information the news was constantly throwing in their faces. It was a time of great uncertainty, lots of information being thrown at us from trusted news sources, social media, and hearsay from those in the medical profession.  We spent March to May just trying to figure out our new life. No baseball. No softball. Lots of time with our animals. Lots of crafts. School from home. Porch drop ...

April - Hey Batter, Batter...

April is always the month that makes us think spring is FINALLY here, because it's starting to warm up, suns starting to shine more, except when we finally get to the baseball/softball fields, it's just as cold as it was in February. Thankfully, Emmalyn had an indoor sport to carry us through the cold of the month, until baseball/softball really got kicked off! Emmalyn tried something new this year and participated in CiVic vollebyall. This is a club program out of Carroll County, and she practiced every Sunday from January through April. Finally in late April she had three play dates. One Saturday we played up at Fairmount, IN. Grandma Jacki, Keaton and I went with Emmalyn, while Dad, Grandpa and Colton cut down some trees in preparation for our spring projects. Emmalyn and Mae Ella did a wonderful job for their team, both rocked their serving and seemed to know the game and keep their cool better than some on the team. The second weekend Dad, Em & Mom traveled to Triton H...
