Fall is our Favorite...

As I type that title to this blog post, I'm thinking it's probably a recurring post title. Fall is truly our favorite though. Kids are back to school, which means our life is back to routine. Colton plays football. Emmalyn chose to join the Cheer Squad for football. Keaton started school. It's HARVEST time, which is all of our favorite. It's cooling off, yet still warm in the sunshine. It smells good. We shut off the A/C and open the windows. Life is GOOD in the fall. This fall -- it was EXTRA good.

Last year in football, Colton got to play quite a bit, but there was a feeling of newness....not really "getting" it. (Dude, no offense either, because Mom still doesn't get it....I just cheer when I see your number (or socks) heading in a positive direction!). This year...Colton, this year, you GET IT. Do you know how fun that is? You understand the game, and your role in the game. You were a BOSS on that field and it was a FUN season. You are blessed with such a fun group of teammates and you all play so well together. You compliment each other well and have great chemistry. You're so fun to watch -- be it the baseball diamond, football field or basketball court. These years just keep getting more and more fun. We are so proud of your progress this season. Your Dad beams with pride -- afterall, football is his sport. He sees himself in you, and kiddo, it's fun to watch. At the end of the season, you were awarded the "Beast Mode" award for scoring the most touchdowns and being a force on offense.
We look forward to watching you as you continue to grow your game and learn how you can best play with your teammates.

Emmalyn -- can we take a minute to talk about you? Let's see -- a few short months ago you were in the Riley Hospital for Children with a broken elbow and all that entailed. This weekend you were doing cartwheels like it was NO BIG DEAL. You chose to cheer as a way to occupy your time every Sunday while we watched Colton play football, but honestly, I think you found your home. You are a natural with cheer, and while I feared you might be a smidge shy out in front of a crowd, you rocked it. You learned all the dances, cheers and chants along with their accompanying moves, mastered the splits in both directions and looked DARN CUTE in your uniform. We are so proud of you for branching out and trying something new, and more so, for overcoming your fear of using your elbow and just going for it (though, honestly, I wince everytime you do a cartwheel or handstand....I mean, we're still paying on the first one, so could you hold off on doing it again?)

It was a fun fall watching you both, and we are excited for what the future holds!! You've got a slew of fans, and are glad to have had Grandma Pat join us for a few of your games this year!

Get Well Soon, Grandpa Kent

Here's the best way to share Dad's video. Thank you all so much for submitting the clips. This really made him smile (and say some funny things the first time we watched soon after anesthesia). I think it will be treasured company this evening in the hospital. Thank you for your prayers, your thoughts, for answering the phone calls and lifting Dad up. We appreciate all your love and support.  58E2238E-D2E3-4B38-9FF6-AE1E502ABD14.mp4

Covid ... the end. (Hopefully. Maybe. I really don't know....)

Almost two years ago, exactly, our world drastically changed. Everyone holed up at home, scared to enter the world and catch Covid 19/Corona Virus. (Except Jason, once he got to feeling better from most likely having Covid before it was a known thing, he just went to work everyday like nothing had changed). The world basically shut down  -- special hours, curbside pick up encouraged, no dining room service only drive through or carryout. If someone coughed or sneezed anywhere near you, you were instantly suspicious. Our parents lived on complete edge and worry, taking in every ounce of information the news was constantly throwing in their faces. It was a time of great uncertainty, lots of information being thrown at us from trusted news sources, social media, and hearsay from those in the medical profession.  We spent March to May just trying to figure out our new life. No baseball. No softball. Lots of time with our animals. Lots of crafts. School from home. Porch drop ...

April - Hey Batter, Batter...

April is always the month that makes us think spring is FINALLY here, because it's starting to warm up, suns starting to shine more, except when we finally get to the baseball/softball fields, it's just as cold as it was in February. Thankfully, Emmalyn had an indoor sport to carry us through the cold of the month, until baseball/softball really got kicked off! Emmalyn tried something new this year and participated in CiVic vollebyall. This is a club program out of Carroll County, and she practiced every Sunday from January through April. Finally in late April she had three play dates. One Saturday we played up at Fairmount, IN. Grandma Jacki, Keaton and I went with Emmalyn, while Dad, Grandpa and Colton cut down some trees in preparation for our spring projects. Emmalyn and Mae Ella did a wonderful job for their team, both rocked their serving and seemed to know the game and keep their cool better than some on the team. The second weekend Dad, Em & Mom traveled to Triton H...
