May - The Month No Mother Remembers

I mean, let's be honest. Does May even happen? It's like this glorious time of year where things are coming back to life, it's warming up, schools winding down -- but also, ALL THE THINGS happen in May. It's becoming go-time with the 4-H animals, someone has baseball/softball something every single day, there's homework or projects to finish up, field trips, Mothers Day and of course, Memorial Day camping butted up with Emmalyn's birthday.  (This is your fault, young lady....if you weren't so stubborn when you were waiting out your final days, your birthday could be ON or BEFORE memorial day!!)

Hard to believe, but Colton's winding down his 5th grade year. It's been a doozy, but we have seen so much growth. The teachers cut the kids NO slack....they hold them responsible and accountable, but it WORKS. Colton has loved having Mrs. Notary....her snark and his match up perfectly! While it seemed like project after project after project this year....we made it. One more year left in the elementary and THAT is a hard pill to swallow. While Colton wrote his own autobiography, studied and presented on the State of Nebraska for the State Fair, the coolest project he did with his Dad. Together they whipped out the coolest little cabinet from an old dresser we had on hand. He wrote up an advertisement and listed it for $80. And guess what -- it SOLD! He was so excited to have sold it, and I was so happy to not have to hang on to it! That kind of project doesn't go in the memory box....but a photo will fit perfectly!

Emmalyn cruised through 3rd grade -- all the testing of iRead and Ilearn. Enjoyed Polar Express Day, and wrapped up the year with her Rainforest Project. Naturally, this big project was due at the same time as Colton's big project, so thankfully, Dad and I divided and conquered, which, amidst all these sports practices was a treat. She studied the tree frog, and did great on her project. She loved having Mrs. Mikels as her teacher and really enjoyed the seating arrangements since there were NO desks.

And baby Keat -- well, he wrapped up his last year at Bright Beginnings and OUR last year of pre-school ever. WEIRD. Keaton loved his teachers, Miss Amy, Miss Shaina and especially loved his bus driver Miss Charlene. We had some fun events, but it all culminated at graduation at the end of May. So anxious to see where the road leads for this kiddo. It's been so fun to watch him blossom as he's gone through preschool.

We wrapped up May by celebrating Mothers Day with both of our awesome Mom's. It was a gorgeous day to spend outside. Colton's class took an end of year to trip to Indiana Beach and basically we all enjoyed the day as if we were 10. We rode the roller coasters at least 15 times, and it was so much fun!!

Last but not least, we spend Memorial Day Weekend camping at the Big Woods. It was a hot weekend with lots of kids, but like always we had a great time with friends.

Get Well Soon, Grandpa Kent

Here's the best way to share Dad's video. Thank you all so much for submitting the clips. This really made him smile (and say some funny things the first time we watched soon after anesthesia). I think it will be treasured company this evening in the hospital. Thank you for your prayers, your thoughts, for answering the phone calls and lifting Dad up. We appreciate all your love and support.  58E2238E-D2E3-4B38-9FF6-AE1E502ABD14.mp4

Covid ... the end. (Hopefully. Maybe. I really don't know....)

Almost two years ago, exactly, our world drastically changed. Everyone holed up at home, scared to enter the world and catch Covid 19/Corona Virus. (Except Jason, once he got to feeling better from most likely having Covid before it was a known thing, he just went to work everyday like nothing had changed). The world basically shut down  -- special hours, curbside pick up encouraged, no dining room service only drive through or carryout. If someone coughed or sneezed anywhere near you, you were instantly suspicious. Our parents lived on complete edge and worry, taking in every ounce of information the news was constantly throwing in their faces. It was a time of great uncertainty, lots of information being thrown at us from trusted news sources, social media, and hearsay from those in the medical profession.  We spent March to May just trying to figure out our new life. No baseball. No softball. Lots of time with our animals. Lots of crafts. School from home. Porch drop ...

April - Hey Batter, Batter...

April is always the month that makes us think spring is FINALLY here, because it's starting to warm up, suns starting to shine more, except when we finally get to the baseball/softball fields, it's just as cold as it was in February. Thankfully, Emmalyn had an indoor sport to carry us through the cold of the month, until baseball/softball really got kicked off! Emmalyn tried something new this year and participated in CiVic vollebyall. This is a club program out of Carroll County, and she practiced every Sunday from January through April. Finally in late April she had three play dates. One Saturday we played up at Fairmount, IN. Grandma Jacki, Keaton and I went with Emmalyn, while Dad, Grandpa and Colton cut down some trees in preparation for our spring projects. Emmalyn and Mae Ella did a wonderful job for their team, both rocked their serving and seemed to know the game and keep their cool better than some on the team. The second weekend Dad, Em & Mom traveled to Triton H...
