April - Hey Batter, Batter...

April is always the month that makes us think spring is FINALLY here, because it's starting to warm up, suns starting to shine more, except when we finally get to the baseball/softball fields, it's just as cold as it was in February. Thankfully, Emmalyn had an indoor sport to carry us through the cold of the month, until baseball/softball really got kicked off!

Emmalyn tried something new this year and participated in CiVic vollebyall. This is a club program out of Carroll County, and she practiced every Sunday from January through April. Finally in late April she had three play dates. One Saturday we played up at Fairmount, IN. Grandma Jacki, Keaton and I went with Emmalyn, while Dad, Grandpa and Colton cut down some trees in preparation for our spring projects. Emmalyn and Mae Ella did a wonderful job for their team, both rocked their serving and seemed to know the game and keep their cool better than some on the team. The second weekend Dad, Em & Mom traveled to Triton High School in Bourbon, IN. This weekend was a bit tricky in part due to the courts being set up under basketball hoops that were still down. It was a tough obstacle to have to play around, but again, the girls did a great job serving and carrying their team. The last weekend we "hosted" at Carroll and finally got a home match. This match happened to fall on picture/opening day for Softball. Grandpa Stockment finally got to come join us and watch Em play, since he didn't make any of her fall school games due to working/fall harvest. However, because we'd been honest and told Coach we couldn't be there the full time, she didn't start nor play Emmalyn in the first match at all. Here Grandma & Grandpa drove clear to Carroll just to watch her sit the bench for the first time all season! Momma bear was NOT happy, but we bailed from there and said "forget about it" and flipped the switch to softball opening day. We got to Chalmers just in time for the game to be rained out/cancelled. Turns out she could have played that second set after all. We went then on up to Brookston to watch Keaton's opening game and enjoyed the drizzle and chaos of his first 8u game. Memories were made that day, to be sure.

Colton and his team cliqued from the get go this season and are such a fun group of boys to watch. They are a brotherhood and us parents are so blessed to all get along and love cheering for all the boys as much as our own. The same Saturday that we were watching Em finish volleyball and softball opening day,  Grandma & Grandpa went on to Kokomo from Carroll to be Colton's fans. A great day of pool play meant we got to play on Sunday as well. Somewhere between the cookout lunch and boys playing on the playground between games, they found a plastic toy lion, named him Tyrone, and he became the mascot of the tournament. He helped the boys find the strength to win and though they lost before the final games, they went further in a tournament than they had before and had the belief that they could win a tournament.

From that weekend on, it was a steady stream of Falcon 43, Frontier 8u and Softball on the schedule and between practice running and game playing it was chaos until the end of June. All three kids LOVE softball/baseball and it was great to kick the seasons off! We just were so happy to be playing again. After everything we gave up in 2020 due to Covid, it felt good to be back on the baselines with our friends and family, cheering on our #20's!!

Because we like to live our life in chaos, we didn't just do three kids in three sports, and 2 calves each, we added pigs back into the bunch. This was a new form of chaos but of course, was kind of a homecoming for Jason and I, taking us back to our pig showing days. We welcomed in 4 pigs - 2 barrows, 2 gilts and added walking pigs to our nightly routine.

Somehow, as much as I think I know about technology, I seem to have erased a bunch of pictures from March/April of this year. I know I took pics of Em playing volleyball, I know for a fact I have/had one of Em & Addi on opening day since they looked all cute but were cancelled....but somehow -- I don't have them anywhere. I cannot find them. I'll add them in at some point -- surely they are in an instagram post somewhere! I knew I did that for a reason.

Get Well Soon, Grandpa Kent

Here's the best way to share Dad's video. Thank you all so much for submitting the clips. This really made him smile (and say some funny things the first time we watched soon after anesthesia). I think it will be treasured company this evening in the hospital. Thank you for your prayers, your thoughts, for answering the phone calls and lifting Dad up. We appreciate all your love and support.  58E2238E-D2E3-4B38-9FF6-AE1E502ABD14.mp4

Covid ... the end. (Hopefully. Maybe. I really don't know....)

Almost two years ago, exactly, our world drastically changed. Everyone holed up at home, scared to enter the world and catch Covid 19/Corona Virus. (Except Jason, once he got to feeling better from most likely having Covid before it was a known thing, he just went to work everyday like nothing had changed). The world basically shut down  -- special hours, curbside pick up encouraged, no dining room service only drive through or carryout. If someone coughed or sneezed anywhere near you, you were instantly suspicious. Our parents lived on complete edge and worry, taking in every ounce of information the news was constantly throwing in their faces. It was a time of great uncertainty, lots of information being thrown at us from trusted news sources, social media, and hearsay from those in the medical profession.  We spent March to May just trying to figure out our new life. No baseball. No softball. Lots of time with our animals. Lots of crafts. School from home. Porch drop ...
