Welcome to 2021

January is here, and look at me....8 days in and already blogging. Aren't I cute? (I've been hardcore catch up blogging for the past 4 days to be able to use a coupon to print the yearly book. If you know me, you know that's not a lie. :)

After our lowkey NYE  - things have picked up a bit. The guys went trapping Saturday morning and had more luck than they bargained for. Jacob called Jason for assistance, because instead of a coyote being in their trap, there was a bobcat! Because it's illegal to shoot bobcats right now (I don't know if it's because they are protected or if its because they are out of season.....either way....no dice on the easy option....), they had to do a release. Videos below - it was quite entertaining. Commentary was not Mom approved.....the things you kids learn when you're with your dad are always headshaking, but I'm thankful you are making memories with him! HA

We also got our first significant snow of the winter season -- and while I'm glad it really didn't hang around too long, it sure was pretty that first morning it came in!

On January 5th, I had a business meeting in South Bend that I was a touch early for -- so I got to take a quick driving pass through Notre Dame, a college I'd not been too before. It really was a beautiful campus - and I got to see the Football stadium and touchdown Jesus -- so I'll call that a win! While I was away for the day, Keaton had a playdate with Brooks! So fun to watch them growing up together, two little Stockment peas in a pod!

School started back yesterday -- virtually. The logic was by starting back virtually these first two days, we'd avoid any potential outbreaks of Covid that comes from NYE gatherings, etc. Which, is great in theory. However, we've now been out of school since December 22nd, so we've been living a feral lifestyle for 15+ days, and it's UGLY. We need bedtimes and structure and routine -- not go to bed late, sleep in late, watch too much youtube, fight over chores and who's doing them and leaving trash from granola bars all over my house. It's been chaotic....and we miss are just flat OVER living this chaotic lifestyle. Can life just go back to how it used to be?

There was also a riot on Wednesday supposedly in support for President Trump and how he should have won the election. People stormed into the State House and the chambers and it's been all over the news and quite frankly, at this point in time -- I don't know what to believe. The media tells you no corruption in the election. Then you hear of different examples and wonder. Then you see riots and fighting and people being flat NASTY to one another on social media. Saying hurtful things if you don't believe in the same candidate as them, but then preaching to love one another. It all just doesn't make any sense. It's confusing and sad and worrisome for our kids.....the headlines are just flat scary. But then in the chaos that makes me hate social media, you find a gem, and are quickly reminded that it's not all bad.

Get Well Soon, Grandpa Kent

Here's the best way to share Dad's video. Thank you all so much for submitting the clips. This really made him smile (and say some funny things the first time we watched soon after anesthesia). I think it will be treasured company this evening in the hospital. Thank you for your prayers, your thoughts, for answering the phone calls and lifting Dad up. We appreciate all your love and support.  58E2238E-D2E3-4B38-9FF6-AE1E502ABD14.mp4

Covid ... the end. (Hopefully. Maybe. I really don't know....)

Almost two years ago, exactly, our world drastically changed. Everyone holed up at home, scared to enter the world and catch Covid 19/Corona Virus. (Except Jason, once he got to feeling better from most likely having Covid before it was a known thing, he just went to work everyday like nothing had changed). The world basically shut down  -- special hours, curbside pick up encouraged, no dining room service only drive through or carryout. If someone coughed or sneezed anywhere near you, you were instantly suspicious. Our parents lived on complete edge and worry, taking in every ounce of information the news was constantly throwing in their faces. It was a time of great uncertainty, lots of information being thrown at us from trusted news sources, social media, and hearsay from those in the medical profession.  We spent March to May just trying to figure out our new life. No baseball. No softball. Lots of time with our animals. Lots of crafts. School from home. Porch drop ...

Central Indiana Winter Spectacular

We kicked off show season with this set of calves in mid-January at the Central Indiana Winter Spectacular, a first time show down in Cloverdale, Indiana. I'm not sure what was more fun - being with our kids and friends at a cattle show, or listening to our kids meddle over the thought of staying in a Motel 6.  (Backstory on this one -- when I worked at Purdue/in the Conference division, I held a few conference at The Hyatt in downtown Indianapolis. When I had events there, I'd earn points. We then would use those points for free night stays....I think I had maybe 15 or so over the years. So, the only hotel my kids know, is a Hyatt, because unbeknownst to them, it was FREE.....which is the ONLY reason we stayed in such a nice place with young kids. So, imagine their dismay when the Motel 6 in Cloverdale didn't have an Eagles Nest rotating up top, or an indoor pool and hot tub/workout area. We have officially raised hotel snobs.....because when we finally took them to the k...
