So, something occured to me this evening. Something I've somewhat
known for a long time. Those of you who know me best, know that I love
to cook. I thrive on trying new recipes, and watching the "hey, this is
decent" or the "Ugh, don't make that again" faces that come with Jason's
first bites. I'll try to make about anything, but homecooked, down home
type foods are what I do best. Jason has even gone as far as saying I'm
a better cook than his Mom, and that's a feat in most men's eyes.
However, amidst the cinnamon rolls from scratch, chicken and noodles,
and sausage egg casseroles, is one long time favorite that I simply
cannot get right. KRAFT MACARONI AND CHEESE - that's right. The stuff
that comes in a box. The stuff you simply add some butter & milk to.
It's basically made for you, and yet...I screw it up everytime.
Tonight, as Colton sleeps and Jason is working outside to get a fence charged to keep the cows in, I realized that I had forgotten about the kraft mac'n'cheese brewing on the stovetop, and by the time I came to save it...half of it was stuck to the bottom of the pan. And it was pretty much tasteless. Maybe I add too much milk or not enough butter. Maybe I overcook the mac? Regardless, it is never as good as we both remember it being growing up. So, I'll just stick to the things I'm decent at....like the homemade pizza that went with the mac tonight (I know, I know...random meal. I needed something quick cause baby Colton has been needy tonight...I think he's not feeling so hot...). I guess that boxed mixes just aren't up my ally...although, I do make a mean hamburger helper.
In other news...here's the new view from our sunroom.
Pretty sweet huh. Now we really are on a farm...we've got 8 cows and 2 babies, plus a 2500 lb bull. Jason even had the nerve to tell me yesterday after they dropped them off ... "don't go ticking that thing off, he could hurt you". Did he think I was going to stand out by the electric fence and bully the bull? Seriously, the thing is HUGE...I know to keep my distance!
Colton is really moving around these days. This is how I found him the other evening, after I got done doing dishes.
And,
he is still squirmy...he's trying to wiggle out of my arms as we
speak... this is Meredith's bouncy jumper thingie -- she's kind of over
it, so now it's
Colton's new toy. He loves it...and loves showing off in it. The kid bounces all over the place. (I have to admit though, Murphy didn't like it one bit the other night...I think it freaked him out.)

This is Colton sporting some serious attitude..check out that big fat pouty lip!
This is Colton chilling out tonight, before he thought he had to help me blog...look at how long he's getting!
My favorite thing about this baby yet...I love it when he smiles!
Well, incase we don't blog again before the long weekend... have a great memorial day! Be safe!
