Spring Break 2016

Well, it wasn't Florida, and it DID rain most of our first day, but we still had a great time getting away for SB2K16!! We joined up with the Wiese clan are invaded Southern Indiana for a few days of fun!

We left in a rain storm Thursday morning of Spring Break, and headed towards Bedford, Indiana to see the Blue Springs Caverns.  Of course, as on any trip with a potty training child, sometimes, you have to do what you have to do to keep moving while accommodating a pee break. Thankfully, Keaton's a boy, and was seated on Dad's side of the van! :) Yes, that's I-65 in the background. Whatever man.

We pitstopped in Bloomington to have lunch. Kids were happy campers!
We prepped the kids about having to be quiet in the cave, and they were so good. All 6 kids were so intrigued, sat still, and listened to our guide. We were super proud of them, especially after having to wait nearly 45 minutes before the tour started. We did some mining for gems while we waited and it poured all around us!

Finally, it was off to the cave...
We didn't get many "in cave" pictures, but it was definitely fun!

We left Bedford, traveled a county highway east to 65, then back north to Columbus. We tried hitting up Simmons Winery north of Columbus for this ominous "chocolate covered" bottle of wine, but to our dismay, the final bottle had sold to the two ladies leaving the tasting bar as we walked in. GO FIGURE. So, back to the hotel so the kids could finally swim!

We ordered in pizza & enjoyed some march madness...the perfect ending to a rainy, but fun first day of break!

Day Two:
Day two started out with breakfast in the hotel, then showers & prep for Louisville Slugger! The kids were so excited. It was chilly, but nice out. Because March Madness was in town, and it was spring break, slugger was PACKED, but the kids enjoyed the tour, and got to take their shots in the batting cages. Dads too.

Keaton got to sit on the bench --
Em took to the tball batting cage, and Colton the big boy batting cage:

After we had our baseball fill, we attempted to tour the Evan Williams Whiskey Distillery, but again, the crowds meant that it was a wait until the next tour, and the kids were melting at this point. So, we bailed there for lunch on the river at Joe's Crabshack. Then back to the hotel for more swimming and leftover pizza for dinner!

Per my cousin Sarah's advice (she's a Columbus local now) we had to hit up Zaharako's Ice Cream and Soda Shop...and it was well worth it. Though, the waitress forgot to place our order, and it took way too long to get ice cream, her comping our bill down to $6 was worth it! Then we jetted across the street to the Commons, and indoor playground for the kids.

Our night was almost complete, but as soon as we walked into the Commons, there appeared to be some sort of fight, and then WHAMO....the cops showed up. Our kids played it totally cool.
Absolutely No Chill. Whatever, it was a fun story to tell. Back to the hotel to try to watch the IU game, only to fall asleep. Sounds like we didn't miss much anyway.

It was a fun, jam packed little get away. We left Saturday morning just in time to get home and run some last minute errands before Easter Sunday! So hard to believe it's already Spring Break. Didn't we just ship these kids back to school for the year? Time definitely flies these days.

Get Well Soon, Grandpa Kent

Here's the best way to share Dad's video. Thank you all so much for submitting the clips. This really made him smile (and say some funny things the first time we watched soon after anesthesia). I think it will be treasured company this evening in the hospital. Thank you for your prayers, your thoughts, for answering the phone calls and lifting Dad up. We appreciate all your love and support.  58E2238E-D2E3-4B38-9FF6-AE1E502ABD14.mp4

Covid ... the end. (Hopefully. Maybe. I really don't know....)

Almost two years ago, exactly, our world drastically changed. Everyone holed up at home, scared to enter the world and catch Covid 19/Corona Virus. (Except Jason, once he got to feeling better from most likely having Covid before it was a known thing, he just went to work everyday like nothing had changed). The world basically shut down  -- special hours, curbside pick up encouraged, no dining room service only drive through or carryout. If someone coughed or sneezed anywhere near you, you were instantly suspicious. Our parents lived on complete edge and worry, taking in every ounce of information the news was constantly throwing in their faces. It was a time of great uncertainty, lots of information being thrown at us from trusted news sources, social media, and hearsay from those in the medical profession.  We spent March to May just trying to figure out our new life. No baseball. No softball. Lots of time with our animals. Lots of crafts. School from home. Porch drop ...

April - Hey Batter, Batter...

April is always the month that makes us think spring is FINALLY here, because it's starting to warm up, suns starting to shine more, except when we finally get to the baseball/softball fields, it's just as cold as it was in February. Thankfully, Emmalyn had an indoor sport to carry us through the cold of the month, until baseball/softball really got kicked off! Emmalyn tried something new this year and participated in CiVic vollebyall. This is a club program out of Carroll County, and she practiced every Sunday from January through April. Finally in late April she had three play dates. One Saturday we played up at Fairmount, IN. Grandma Jacki, Keaton and I went with Emmalyn, while Dad, Grandpa and Colton cut down some trees in preparation for our spring projects. Emmalyn and Mae Ella did a wonderful job for their team, both rocked their serving and seemed to know the game and keep their cool better than some on the team. The second weekend Dad, Em & Mom traveled to Triton H...
