Six. You're officially on TWO hands now, Emmalyn. And while I am the WORST Mother because your birthday sneaks up on me NEARLY. EVERY. YEAR....I love that we plan and plan for your birthday for months in advance, and that when I'm trying to frantically pull it all together....it happens easy and smooth, because you are a girl who knows what she wants!
So, what did you want? A Strawberry Shortcake party....but not this strawberry shortcake..
THIS Strawberry Shortcake...
What can I say... a girl after my own heart!!
So, we called on Grandma & Grandpa Stockment for the homemade ice cream, and Aunt Sarah and I did pound cake. But before we could party, you had even bigger plans.
For MONTHS you've been asking to get your ears pierced. And we've held you off, but finally said, perhaps that could be her 6th Birthday date. And so it was. Dad and I so love these nights with you kids. We love having just YOU to focus on and enjoy. We love the joy in your eyes, and the way you get to make all the rules for a night. Well, most of the rules.
We started your birthday date out by getting a few of Mommy's errands out of the way first (reference: "your birthday always sneaks up on me" above). While at Gordon's, your Dad hijacked my easy peasy hot dog bar idea, for a full on "let's smoke a brisket, they are super cheap here...and look great!". And so we did. Then we were off to the main attraction -- Tippecanoe Mall to visit Claire's and get our girls ears pierced! The closer we got, the more nervous you became, but you were so BRAVE. You didn't cry, you didn't flinch, you just were curious, taking it all in, but trusting the young girl working with all your might. You got adorable purple birthstone studs, and are so proud of them. You've done a great job cleaning them and taking care of your ears.
We shopped a bit more, then had dinner at Applebee's in the mall. Again, your choice. Then it was home to enjoy just you a bit more, as Grandma & Grandpa offered to keep Keaton & Colton over night! Fun times all around! We so treasure these one on one nights with you!
We celebrated a few days later with your strawberry short cake party and family at the house. You were spoiled with great gifts and good food, and we were spoiled with great weather on a Sunday afternoon in June!
Happy 6th Birthday, sweet girl. We love you more than you'll ever know -- and hope that you always stay at sweet and kind as you are today!
