Basketball X2

This year, we didn't just have one child playing basketball, Em joined the ranks by joining her 3rd grade girls team. Because the class above doesn't have too many kids who play, Colton and a few classmates moved up to the 6th grade team. This worked out well for us as far as scheduling, but a we found, made for a tough year as a team and the W column.....

First Em - it was her first year playing. She was lucky enough to snag Kinsey (Lehe) Howe are her first coach. Considering Kinsey is a local legend in these parts, what a great first coach to teach her the fundamentals of basketball. Em - you were a joy to watch. I can't count on one hand how many times I said you were so blissfully ignorant on the court. You played with heart and hustle, but couldn't seem to grasp that defense was only necessary on one end of the court! That said, you never lost sight of your man! HA You made some baskets, grabbed some rebounds and definitely played great man to man defense. It was a perfect jumping off point and we're excited to see your game grow through the years. The best part was that your team sat atop the leader board all season at Legacy for 3rd grade girls. You won the end of season tournament, making you 3rd grade Champs!



Next up - Colton
Colton - your team barely saw a W this year....which was hard. However, you were consistently playing kids who were older, more experienced and let's face it, flat out bigger. You all just haven't hit your growth spurts yet! That said, individually, you did a great job. You have improved your ball handling and have finally mastered the breakaway where you slow down, jump stop, let the chasing defender pass, and then shoot a putback. As always, your speed and agility are your best attributes.
You were fun to watch, and we love cheering for you -- good seasons and not so great seasons! You certainly love the game, so keep working kid. We know hard work pays off!

As per that height difference -- it didn't hit home near as hard as it did the night we played at Rensselaer: To be fair -- Uncle Matt and I think this had to be this kids 3rd pass through 6th grade....

Covid ... the end. (Hopefully. Maybe. I really don't know....)

 Almost two years ago, exactly, our world drastically changed. Everyone holed up at home, scared to enter the world and catch Covid 19/Corona Virus. (Except Jason, once he got to feeling better from most likely having Covid before it was a known thing, he just went to work everyday like nothing had changed). The world basically shut down  -- special hours, curbside pick up encouraged, no dining room service only drive through or carryout. If someone coughed or sneezed anywhere near you, you were instantly suspicious. Our parents lived on complete edge and worry, taking in every ounce of information the news was constantly throwing in their faces. It was a time of great uncertainty, lots of information being thrown at us from trusted news sources, social media, and hearsay from those in the medical profession.  We spent March to May just trying to figure out our new life. No baseball. No softball. Lots of time with our animals. Lots of crafts. School from home. Porch drop ...

April - Hey Batter, Batter...

April is always the month that makes us think spring is FINALLY here, because it's starting to warm up, suns starting to shine more, except when we finally get to the baseball/softball fields, it's just as cold as it was in February. Thankfully, Emmalyn had an indoor sport to carry us through the cold of the month, until baseball/softball really got kicked off! Emmalyn tried something new this year and participated in CiVic vollebyall. This is a club program out of Carroll County, and she practiced every Sunday from January through April. Finally in late April she had three play dates. One Saturday we played up at Fairmount, IN. Grandma Jacki, Keaton and I went with Emmalyn, while Dad, Grandpa and Colton cut down some trees in preparation for our spring projects. Emmalyn and Mae Ella did a wonderful job for their team, both rocked their serving and seemed to know the game and keep their cool better than some on the team.
