Men - they can steal your heart sometimes...but you can't count on them for anything...

Tuesday afternoon, Jason called me mid-day, asking if we had plans for the evening. He mentioned that his bosses had offered him their two tickets to the home opener for Purdue Men's basketball. Being that it was just an exhibition game, Jason asked if I thought Colton would enjoy it. How sweet right? Jason called to set up his first father/son night out, and it just completely melted my heart.

I could picture them, sitting there in a not overly crowded Mackey Arena, clapping along to the fight song and pointing out Purdue Pete, and watching the Cheerleaders fly....amongst the real entertainment of JJ dunking and E'Twan and his sly moves, and the Paint Crew, and...you get the picture...I HEART PURDUE MEN'S BASKETBALL. So, I told Jason I thought Colton would love it, but that he had to make me one simple promise. Document the evening in photos, because I'm going to want to blog about it. Fair enough --he agreed to text me a few pictures through out the night (after shooting down the idea of a camera before the idea was even out of my mouth!!!).

Decked out in his new Purdue t-shirt and hat, the boys loaded up and were off. It was a 7pm tip-off, and I'd suggested they stop for sandwiches on the way down. Make it a truely fun night out. At 7:05, I texted Jason...
"Don't leave me hanging...what's he think?"..................................no response.
7:40pm -- "Come on, send me a picture, is he loving it?"
8:00pm -- "If you arent' texting me back, because you left your phone in the truck, I'm probably going to be pretty honked off....just FYI"
8:15pm - "You totally left your phone in the truck, didn't you?"

8:30pm -- my house phone rings -- "Well, I've got good news and bad news -- the good news is, he was a great kid and really enjoyed it.....but, um...the bad news is....well, yeah...I got your texts. Just now. My phone was in the truck"

I swear, you can't count on a man for anything. You better believe that when I take Colton BACK to Mackey sometime this season, that I'll have my camera and there will be a post FULL of pictures...because that's how Mom's do it.

PS. For the last three days, all I've heard out of Colton is that JJ dunked it, and he wants to be Purdue Pete for Halloween! :) Time to start molding a super huge head for next Halloween...

Get Well Soon, Grandpa Kent

Here's the best way to share Dad's video. Thank you all so much for submitting the clips. This really made him smile (and say some funny things the first time we watched soon after anesthesia). I think it will be treasured company this evening in the hospital. Thank you for your prayers, your thoughts, for answering the phone calls and lifting Dad up. We appreciate all your love and support.  58E2238E-D2E3-4B38-9FF6-AE1E502ABD14.mp4

Covid ... the end. (Hopefully. Maybe. I really don't know....)

Almost two years ago, exactly, our world drastically changed. Everyone holed up at home, scared to enter the world and catch Covid 19/Corona Virus. (Except Jason, once he got to feeling better from most likely having Covid before it was a known thing, he just went to work everyday like nothing had changed). The world basically shut down  -- special hours, curbside pick up encouraged, no dining room service only drive through or carryout. If someone coughed or sneezed anywhere near you, you were instantly suspicious. Our parents lived on complete edge and worry, taking in every ounce of information the news was constantly throwing in their faces. It was a time of great uncertainty, lots of information being thrown at us from trusted news sources, social media, and hearsay from those in the medical profession.  We spent March to May just trying to figure out our new life. No baseball. No softball. Lots of time with our animals. Lots of crafts. School from home. Porch drop ...

April - Hey Batter, Batter...

April is always the month that makes us think spring is FINALLY here, because it's starting to warm up, suns starting to shine more, except when we finally get to the baseball/softball fields, it's just as cold as it was in February. Thankfully, Emmalyn had an indoor sport to carry us through the cold of the month, until baseball/softball really got kicked off! Emmalyn tried something new this year and participated in CiVic vollebyall. This is a club program out of Carroll County, and she practiced every Sunday from January through April. Finally in late April she had three play dates. One Saturday we played up at Fairmount, IN. Grandma Jacki, Keaton and I went with Emmalyn, while Dad, Grandpa and Colton cut down some trees in preparation for our spring projects. Emmalyn and Mae Ella did a wonderful job for their team, both rocked their serving and seemed to know the game and keep their cool better than some on the team. The second weekend Dad, Em & Mom traveled to Triton H...
