Colton - 2018

So, since the entire first portion of our year was dedicated to renovating the house. And the mid-part has been, well.......SUMMER....I think it's going to be best to attack 2018 by kid.

So, let's start with our baby, who, as of 2018, is officially a double digit kid. Certainly, as comparison of old pictures from a year ago show, is not a baby anymore. My baby's babyface is leaving, and a little too fast for Mom's liking. That said, we're super proud of the young man you are, Colton. So many comment on your work ethic, and what a hard worker you are. We beam. You're a good friend, you work hard at your school work (despite it not being your favorite thing ever...) and occasionally, you don't pick on your brother and sister and help them out in life! No matter the picking, we know you'll always be their fiercest protector...this picking is just a STAGE, right?

So, January 30th was the big day, and we had a ball celebrating you. Friend party at Reynolds gym playing basketball for hours, followed by a quick family dinner and gifts before your basketball game! It was a fun lead into 10!




Speaking of basketball game -- we caved and signed up for a 2nd season of basketball for you this past spring. How could we not...it was one night a week, in Reynolds, against other White County teams (aka: friends kids). It was a blast, even though we were the youngest of the teams, and got beat quite a bit. We DID hold our own against the 6th grade girls team we played, and they were GOOD. Of course, we enjoyed watching Colton grow his game....he plays like a little bulldog. It's probably a good thing strong/small/mighty Carsen Edwards is his Purdue idol!

Then of course, came baseball season. One of our favorites. And a good one it was....while when we found out about the team, Colton felt a bit jaded for not having many of his fellow friends/past allstars on his team (while it seemed many of them were on the other team). BUT, you stepped up adn made the most of the season, and guess what -- your team walked away with two runner up trophies, proving that teamwork and dedication can take you where you want to go. It was a growth opportunity and a challenge, and frustrating at times, for sure....but overall, it was a great season and as always, we loved cheering you on, and watching you play!

Covid ... the end. (Hopefully. Maybe. I really don't know....)

 Almost two years ago, exactly, our world drastically changed. Everyone holed up at home, scared to enter the world and catch Covid 19/Corona Virus. (Except Jason, once he got to feeling better from most likely having Covid before it was a known thing, he just went to work everyday like nothing had changed). The world basically shut down  -- special hours, curbside pick up encouraged, no dining room service only drive through or carryout. If someone coughed or sneezed anywhere near you, you were instantly suspicious. Our parents lived on complete edge and worry, taking in every ounce of information the news was constantly throwing in their faces. It was a time of great uncertainty, lots of information being thrown at us from trusted news sources, social media, and hearsay from those in the medical profession.  We spent March to May just trying to figure out our new life. No baseball. No softball. Lots of time with our animals. Lots of crafts. School from home. Porch drop ...

Central Indiana Winter Spectacular

 We kicked off show season with this set of calves in mid-January at the Central Indiana Winter Spectacular, a first time show down in Cloverdale, Indiana. I'm not sure what was more fun - being with our kids and friends at a cattle show, or listening to our kids meddle over the thought of staying in a Motel 6.  (Backstory on this one -- when I worked at Purdue/in the Conference division, I held a few conference at The Hyatt in downtown Indianapolis. When I had events there, I'd earn points. We then would use those points for free night stays....I think I had maybe 15 or so over the years. So, the only hotel my kids know, is a Hyatt, because unbeknownst to them, it was FREE.....which is the ONLY reason we stayed in such a nice place with young kids. So, imagine their dismay when the Motel 6 in Cloverdale didn't have an Eagles Nest rotating up top, or an indoor pool and hot tub/workout area. We have officially raised hotel snobs.....because when we finally took them to the k...
