Once again, we took a post fair vacation to wrap up summer with the Stockment clan. The most awesome thing about Michigan City is that it's 2 1/2 hours away. We planned all summer to take the full week off, so we left on Saturday afternoon and joined Brad & Jacki for two full days solo before the rest of the clan came up. We beached some and explored the area, and got groceries of course.
But on Monday, July 30th, we shared a co-Anniversary celebration and headed to Chicago for the day. After realizing in March how easy it was to take the South Shore Trains into the city, we felt like pros. We jumped on the train in Michigan City, and got off at Millennium Park. We saw "The Bean", and did our photo opps, then took off to explore. We walked Michigan Avenue, and found a Giordiano's pizza place. It had outdoor seating near a fountain, with plenty of birds lurking nearby. That part wasn't great, but the pizza... AMAZING! We set off again down Michigan Avenue and took in the shops, including a super cute little candy shop.
Our final stop in the city was one of the reasons we went in the first place. The Shoreline Architectural Tour. I was nervous, honestly, with three kids on a 75 minute boat tour about buildings and architecture. We knew Brad would really dig it though, so we went for it. It was actually really awesome. The kids were great. The facts were interesting. The tour guide was awesome. And you know, they had snacks on the first floor, and a bathroom on the boat, so we were there at least 3 times per kid! HA We traveled out of the city in time to have dinner back at the house. It was a pretty great way to celebrate our anniversaries!
On Tuesday, Jessica and Chris and Jacob & Makayla and kids joined us for the rest of the week. We tripped to the beach, spent an afternoon at the outlet mall while Brad took the boys all on a chartered fishing trip. This is always a highlight for the guys -- and better this year since Colton didn't get sea sick and they ALL caught multiple fish!
Toward the end of the week, Brad & Jacki went with Jessica and Jacob's family to St. Joseph's and Wiese's and Maxwells came to visit us for an afternoon on the sand. We walked to the lighthouse with Aunt Jess to cap off a fun week.
On Saturday, before heading home, we met up with Wiese's again at the Washington Beach to watch a boat race and do some swimming. It was a great afternoon with friends to wrap up our vacation.
Vacation was the perfect way to wrap up a super busy summer. The only bummer....school was JUST around the corner!
